The Netherlands are gearing up for their final ICC World Cup clash against India, the only undefeated team in the tournament, with a fearless attitude, as expressed by all-rounder Teja Nidamanuru. Having emerged from the qualifiers, the Dutch team caused upsets by defeating South Africa and Bangladesh, securing two victories out of their eight matches so far.
“I think to play arguably the best team in the competition at the top of the table is something that we’re very excited by and it’s another opportunity for us,” Nidamanuru commented after their recent loss to England. The team strives to display their skills and give their all every time they step onto the pitch, especially given their World Cup journey.
This is the first time the Dutch team has won two World Cups, but Nidamanuru acknowledges the unpredictability of their results.. “We haven’t put together the ideal game yet, if I’m really honest.”
As a middle-order batter who also bowls off-spin, Nidamanuru highlighted the challenges faced due to limited resources back home, making it difficult to compete at the highest level. He emphasized the abrupt transition to the ICC World Cup scene, facing quality bowlers delivering at speeds of 135-plus kmph or spinning the ball effectively.
Despite the resource difference, Nidamanuru sees the World Cup as a learning opportunity and feels that additional exposure against strong teams will help the Dutch team greatly develop. He pointed to the example of Afghanistan, which, despite having only one win in the last two World Cups, managed to stun three former champions in the current edition.
“We see this as a learning block, but we’re out there to compete,” Nidamanuru asserted. “No one comes to lose or to play badly.” The Netherlands is set to face hosts India in their final match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 on November 12.
