Inzamam-ul-Haq was Reappointed as Pakistan Men’s National Team Chief Selector. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has once again entrusted the role of chief selector to former captain and prolific batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq. He previously held the position from 2016 to 2019 and is now set to take charge ahead of the Asia Cup and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, scheduled to be held in India.
Inzamam-ul-Haq boasts an impressive cricketing career, representing Pakistan in 120 Tests, 378 ODIs, and one T20I from 1992 to 2007. He remains Pakistan’s highest run-scorer in international cricket, accumulating an impressive total of 20,541 runs across various formats.
During his previous tenure as chief selector, Pakistan achieved significant success, clinchi𝓀ng the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy with a remarkable victory over arch-rivals India by 180 runs at The Oval. He was also responsible for assembling the squad that won five out of nine league games at the 2019 Cricket World Cup in England and Wales, although the team fell short of reaching the knockout stage.
Inzamam-ul-Haq’s immediate task upon his return will be to select the squad for Pakistan’s upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in Sri Lanka, starting on 22 August. Following this, he will be overseeing the team’s preparations for the Asia Cup and the highly anticipated Cricket World Cup.
Pakistan’s Cricket World Cup journey commences on October 6, where they will face the Netherlands at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The final is scheduled to be held at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19.
