Nepali cricketer Sandeep Lamichane was arrested after being accused of rape. After being released on bail, he played 4 matches for the country. Now his government is going to play in Dubai. But Lamichane is unable to go with the team. Because the condition was stipulated at the time of bail, one cannot leave the country until the case is settled. But the court lifted the ban for Lamichan. Now Lamichane needs ICC permission to play. Britanth Khanal, general secretary of Nepal Cricket Board (CAN) said, “A letter has been sent to the ICC asking for the permission of Lamichhan to play on behalf of the board.” However, Nepal won the first match of the series without him. Nepal beat Papua New Guinea by 4 wickets in that match. The rape case against Lamichan was filed on September 6 last year. On October 31, a charge sheet was filed against him in court. In the charge sheet, Lamichhan was accused of raping a 17-year-old girl. If the charges are proven, he can be jailed for 10 to 12 years according to the law of Nepal.

Lamichane was playing in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) when the chargesheet was filed in court. The next day, the Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant. Soon after, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) removed him from the team’s leadership. Police arrested Lamichane at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan Airport on his way back from playing Cpl. He was released on bail on January 13 this year. A joint bench of the Patan High Court then granted bail to Lamichane with a fine of Rs 20 lakh.
