In September last year, Nepal’s biggest cricket star Sandeep Lamichhan filed a case of rape by a minority girl. The captain of the national team was also arrested after playing CPL, the cricket board also banned him. The ban was lifted when he was granted bail last month. Called up for the tri-nation series, he also got a place in the eleven in the first match on Tuesday. Nepal is playing a tri-nation ODI series against Namibia and Scotland. Lamichane was kept in the squad for this competition at home. However, Nepali cricket fans did not take it kindly. They also announced a boycott of the national team’s games.

Opponents Namibia and Scotland did not accept Lamichhan’s playing decision without hesitation. They strongly condemned all forms of gender-based violence, discrimination, and torture. An arrest warrant was issued against Lamichan in September last year. He was then in West Indies playing CPL. He was taken into police custody at Kathmandu airport after entering the country in October. Finally got bail on the condition of not leaving the country till the judgment of this case.
