In preparation for the upcoming ICC Under-19 World Cup in South Africa starting on January 19, the🐲 Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced its 15-man squad. The team features the same members who secured victory in the ACC U-19 Asia Cup, held recently, showcasing c💛ontinuity and trust in the winning combination.
Taking the helm as captain was Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby, who led Bangℱladesh to their inaugural Asia Cup triumph in December 2023 by defeating the UAE in Dubai. Now, Rabby aims to guide the U-19 squad to another milestone – reclaiming the World Cup title that the Bangladesh U-19 team, led by Akbar Ali, clinched for the first time in 2020 in the same country.
Speaking at a press conference in Mirpur, U-19 team selector Hanna Sarkar expressed optimism about the team’s chances.
“We were champions in 2020, and unfortunately, we couldn’t achieve our desired result in 2022. This time, we are going there with hopes of regaining it,” Sarkar added.
Placed in Group A alongside India, Ireland and the USA, Bangladesh’s U-19 team will vie for a spot in the quarterfinals, with the top two teams from each group advancing. The campaign kicks off with a match against India in Bloemfontein on January 20.
