Ashraf’s proposal emerged following a telephone conversation with Jay Shah, President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), during which they deliberated on rain-affected matches, particularly those involving Pakistan and India in Sri Lanka.

The PCB chairman’s stance is grounded in the unpredictability of Sri Lanka’s weather, prompting him to call for a comprehensive weather assessment in the coming days.

Proposed Solution

As a solution, he has suggested moving the Asia Cup matches to Pakistan, specifically mentioning that Pakistan-India matches could be relocated to Dubai if necessary.

Potential Relocation of Super 4 Stage Matches

There is also the possibility of relocating the Super 4 stage matches of the Asia Cup, initially scheduled for Colombo on September 9, to alternative venues such as Pallekele or Hambantota.

Confirmation of Ongoing Discussions

According to reports in the Daily Mirror, ongoing discussions between the Asian Cricket Council and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have been confirmed by an SLC official. The official stated that a decision on this matter would be made in the coming days and clarified that Dambulla was not among the venues under consideration.

Ashraf had previously underscored the significance of the Asia Cup as a premier cricket tournament and stressed the importance of preventing disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions.

In response to Ashraf’s proposal, Jay Shah has conveyed his assurance of a thorough evaluation of the situation.

It is worth noting that the Pakistan-India match in Kandy was significantly impacted by rain, resulting in no conclusive outcome.
