Shakib Al Hasan, recently appointed as Bangladesh’s ODI captain, held his inaugural press conference alongside head coach Chandika Hathurusingha. The purpose was to communicate with the media prior to Bangladesh’s participation in the upcoming Asia Cup campaign in Mirpur.

Due to his engagements in the Global T20 League in Canada and Lanka Premier League, Shakib missed the Tigers’ two-week training camp. Although he did not participate in the practice game on the final day, he ensured effective communication with coach Hathurusingha, the team management, and players to foster a cohesive dressing room environment.

Shakib emphasized that there is no need for significant adjustment within the team, as he is familiar with most players from past experiences. He believes that the players’ understanding of their roles and responsibilities, along with the existing cricketing culture within the team, will contribute to a harmonious transition.

With the Asia Cup serving as a precursor to the ICC ODI World Cup in October, Shakib focused on the immediate goal of progressing to the second round of the Asia Cup. He asserted that a strong performance in the Asia Cup would boost the team’s confidence, but success in one tournament does not necessarily dictate success in another.

Shakib adopted a team-centric perspective, diverting attent🧸ion from his role as a leader and his individual performance. When asked about his batting position, he remained open to adaptation and underscored the significance of collective contributions.
