Having been bought for Rs 10.75 crore by the Capitals, Thakur’s performance may not have exactly met the requirement of value for money. He scored only 120 runs in 14 games he played last season and although he bagged 15 wickets, the 31-year-old had an economy rate of close to 10 with an average of 31.5. While he was one of the star performers for his previous franchise, Chennai Super Kings, he was a tad under par in his maiden season for the Capitals.

It is reported that Thakur could be released by the Delhi franchise which may try to buy him back for a lesser price. Along with Thakur, wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat and batter Mandeep Singh may also be released. The two were bought for Rs 2 crore and Rs 1.10 core respectively at the last auction.

With skipper Rishabh Pant keeping the wickets, Andhra’s Bharat, who is considered one of the best ‘keepers in the country, could not find a spot in the playing XI. Meanwhile, Mandeep, with only 18 runs in three games, may not have given his chances a great favor.
The teams have till November 15 to inform the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about the players they intend to release. As previously reported by Cricbuzz, the auction is likely to be held on December 16 with either Istanbul in Turkey or Bengaluru being the venue. There has not been much activity in the trade window which has been open since the IPL ended.
