The altercation unfolded on December 11, prior to a match between Sydney Sixers and Hobart Hurricanes. Curran was performing his pre-match routine when a fourth umpire, responsible for pitch supervision during intervals,🐻 instructed Curran to avoid running onto the pitch during his practice run-ups.
In response, Curran relocated to the opposite end of the wicket for his practice run-up. However, an altercation ensued when the umpire obstructed Curran’s approach to the pitch and gestured for him to move away.
Footage revealed Curran gesturing for the umpire to step as🍸ide and attempting a practice run-up towards the umpire positioned in the bowling crease. The umpire sidestepped to evade a potential collision.
For this breach, Curran faced a Level 3 offense under CA’s Code of Conduct, resulting in a four-match suspension for the England all-rounder.
In response to the ban, Sydney Sixers conveyed their intention to contest the decision. Rachael Haynes, Head of Sydney Sixers, voiced support for Curran, stating that the club would appeal the verdict, citing legal advice and maintaining Curran’s lack of intention to intimidate the match official. The team aims to back Curran during this challenging period and anticipates his return to the field.
